Following his marriage to Marilyn Crowell, Gerry accepted a teaching position at his alma mater, Norwich Free Academy, where he taught mathematics. Gerry continued to teach until he retired having completed 28 years of positive influence on his thousands of students.

Never being one to sit back and relax, Gerry soon un-retired and joined A. Robert Schnip and Associates and sold real estate. During this period of time Gerry also found time to study Library Science at Mohegan Community College and became a Professional Genealogist.
